Alka-Seltzer Tablets
Acetylsalicylic Acid Effervescent Tablets for Oral Solution USP
For fast relief of headache and upset stomach, acid indigestion or heartburn. Alka-Seltzer will also provide relief from headache and fever plus body aches and pains.
Medicinal Ingredient: Each tablet contains acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) 325mg, sodium bicarbonate 1916mg, citric acid 1000mg.
Directions: Dissolve in one glass (250mL) of water. Do not take within 2 hours of another medicine because the effectiveness of the other medicine may be altered. Do not take immediately after food and drink.
Adult Dose: 2 tablets dissolved in water every 4 hours as required up to a maximum of 8 tablets daily. Do not take more than the maximum recommended dose unless advised by a doctor. Use the smallest effective dose. Consult a doctor if fever lasts more than 3 days, pain lasts more than 5 days, new symptoms occur, or if redness/swelling is present.
Adults 60 years and older: 2 tablets every 4 hours, or as directed by a doctor. Do not exceed 4 tablets in 24 hours.
Store between 15-30°C.
Overdose: Call doctor/poison control centre immediately, even in the absence of symptoms.
Warnings: Do not take if you are allergic to ASA, salicylates, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)/pain relievers/fever reducers or other ingredients in the product, have an ulcer, history of ulcers or are prone to bleeding, have active or severe liver or kidney disease or congestive heart failure, have a history of asthma caused by salicylates or NSAIDs, are using methotrexate at doses of 15mg/week or more, are in the last trimester of pregnancy because it may cause problems in the unborn child or complications during delivery, have low calcium, stomach acid, or are on a low salt diet.
Precautions: Consult a healthcare professional if any of the identified risk factors are present: asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, gout or other serious conditions, are age 60 or over, or have stomach problems such as heartburn.
Stomach bleeding warning: contrains a NSAID which may cause severe stomach bleeding; impaired liver/kidney function or impaired cardiovascular circulation (kidney disease, congestive heart failure, volume depletion, major surgery, blood infections, or major bleeding events); a history of blood clotting defects or severe anemia; severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency; are trying to conceive, pregnant, breastfeeding, or have seizures/convulsions during pregnancy; will be having surgery in 5 to 7 days; swelling or fluid retention.
